Lost but found at 26 Degrees South

Another day, another adventure. By now you know there’s always a sprinkle of shenanigans when I’m hiking with my community. 😂And yes, this day was no different.

We set out for a 10 km hike at 26 Degrees South, a beautiful trail that crosses into Cradle moon before looping back. Weather was nice and cool, perfect for hiking.  South Africa is beautiful; I am proud to be a South African.

😍

But before I get to the beauty, let me confess my comedy of errors.

The Shenanigans

The week leading up to the hike, our WhatsApp group was buzzing with reminders. Me being me, I skimmed through the messages like a pro, I saw “Cradle moon” pop up and thought, bingo, I know where we’re going. Fast forward to Saturday morning: I woke up on time, drove myself (without my human GPS, Pumza), and arrived bright and early.  If you’ve read my previous posts, you know I do not like driving, I am a professional passenger. Already this was a lot for me. Ticket bought, pictures taken, smugness level was very high.

Do I look like someone who had a rough morning start? 😆. Heck no, nature never disappoints 😊

Thirty minutes later… crickets. No familiar faces. I call the group: “Where are you guys?” They reply, “We’re here, where are YOU?”  Fifteen minutes of confusion until we realized, I’m at the wrong place.

Luckily, my accidental venue was only 15 minutes away from the actual spot. Moral of the story? Read messages properly. And never let my GPS abandon me again. 😆Thankfully, my community refused to leave me behind. They waited, the weather was cloudy, and soon enough I was reunited with the crew.

The Hike

Drama forgotten, we set off. Ten glorious kilometres along the river, serenaded by birds and the soothing rush of water. It had rained a lot; the river was full. Conversations flowed, laughter echoed, and photos were snapped like we were influencers (Moira and Jennifer😂) in the wild.

Leading the pack, even forgot I was lost😆

26 Degrees South is breathtaking. I spotted Warthogs, Zebras (my forever favourites), and endless scenic views of the Crocodile River. Bird watchers would lose their minds here it’s paradise. The trail is moderate, well-marked, and best of all, no pre-bookings required. Picnic spots abound, and the hotel overlooks mountains and greenery that make you want to stay forever.

😍

My community isn’t just about hliking, we laugh together, pray together, cry together; remind each other that adventures are better shared.❤️
