Silvermine Dam (Table Mountain National Park)

Hiking for Fun

I find it fitting to call this piece “hiking for fun” my blog name. This hike most definitely reminded me of why I started hiking in the first place. It’s always special when I hike in a different provinces , I love it. I try to incorporate hikes when I visit different places, being either work or holiday. This one was no different. One would argue why I hike while on holiday, like our Uber driver did. She could not comprehend who wants to go climb mountains while on holiday. I understood where she was coming from. She doesn’t get how being out there makes me feel. The peace, tranquil, serenity of it all while am out there, surpasses the physical part of it. I don’t mind it because I get more than I bargain for when am in the mountains. By the way the reason our Uber driver heard about our hiking was because she became our driver the whole time, we were in Cape town, shout out to Flo, she was a trooper. And yes Flo, myself and D have humans that breathe. 🤣

The views

We struggled to wake up on Saturday as we had a late night on Friday. We managed to drag ourselves out of our cosy beds and off we went to Trish’s house for a lift to the hiking spot. During the drive we already forgotten our beds, the weather was AMAZING, blue skies, bit chilli but no crazy Cape town winds. I think we brought Johannesburg weather with us, cause wow, the weather played along. Trish invited her friend, Sue, she came with her two four legged babies.

D warming up to her new friend

Before I left Joburg I already organized the hike with my always ever ready/willing friends to hike with me when am in Cape town. 😊Appreciate you Trish and Dr Renee. I dragged D to this hike against her will. She complained about this hiking even before we left for Cape town, guess what, she was the one who enjoyed herself more than us. She even got over her fear of dogs , well a little bit. We were all proud of her, I have receipts for this, she cannot argue with me.🤣 the dogs were Sue’s, Trish’s friend. We all had fun, laughed a lot and had fabtastic conversations.

Receipts 😀 a moment later 😀

We hiked at a place called Silvermine Dam by Table Mountain National Park. What a gorgeous place, we hiked only hiked 5km as we had a packed day afterwards. Let me tell you, it felt like we hiked 10km. We saw a lot of amazing views all round, the ocean, mountains, lovely fynbos landscape. Th high up we hiked, the more we saw the full view of the damn. The history of this place stems way back , 1680 type back. I understand this trail has few different hikes, cant wait to explore more next time. Trish and Doc, that’s me inviting myself back to Cape town in the new year.😊

😍

As I always say, it costs minimum R50.00 to have a holiday, a short left, now this was a R50.00 holiday for sure. It was worth waking up even with the hangover. Taking a dip in the dam was an amazing experience, the water was freezing, but it was all worth it. Afterwards we dressed up and off we went for lunch in Kalk bay. This place is magnificent, chilled. We had FRESH fish, as expected, well the best part was eating this fish overlooking the ocean 😀. What more can a girl ask for☺️. Doc was ready to show us around KalK bay, after lunch we walked to a cocktail bar, and the cocktails were awesome, yes even my virgin ones were Good. It was truly an awesome day, thanks to Renee and Trish for agreeing to be part of our shenanigans for the day.

Happiness 😆

I can go on and on about this day, all I know is the day was Fabtastic and it was one of my greatest experience.

We were ready to adopt our Uber driver. 😀

Until next year Fabtastic people!

Thank you for always coming back to read my blog.

Happy holidays
